This extrageneric fragment, by itself an autonomous lyric throe, appears as a trace (lineation and punctuation altered) in a letter to Susan Dickinson possibly composed in 1873 (THJ, RWF). The lines, arranged as prose but scanning as verse, conclude the letter; perhaps, their position at the far end of the letter should prepare us for their "breakaway" into another textual space and, possibly, another genre.
