One of the many brief, extrageneric texts found among Dickinson's late papers
after her death, Dickinson's final intentions toward the fragment remain unknown.
It may have been destined for incorporation into a poem, a letter, or a longer
pensée; alternatively, it may be an experiment in aphoristic form. A
single stray pencil mark appears along the bottom edge of the opposing side of the
paper; it has not been transcribed.
